Zoe is a sweet and petite girl who will steal your heart the second you meet her! This girl has so much personality and spunk despite her disability that she'll make you melt when you watch her dance and wiggle around your feet! You see, after getting her checked out by the vet, we believe that poor Zoe may be a survivor of canine distemper, a nasty virus that usually kills unvaccinated dogs. Those few that survive usually have damage to the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls and coordinates muscle movements. This leaves distemper survivors incapable of making smooth, controlled movements; instead they are usually uncoordinated and jerky. If not canine distemper, she may have had some trauma to the cerebellum that left her unable to control her body the way most dogs can. Her cerebrum, the part of the brain that controls learning, thinking, and personality is fine though! Zoe knows her name and we believe that she may be housebroken and crate trained! We believe that she would be able to learn commands like "sit" and "down" but may have trouble performing them due to her lack of muscle control.

Zoe has slight head tremors (seen especially when eating and when she's focusing on something/someone) and has trouble controlling her legs but can get around just fine at her own pace! She walks just fine when she takes her time but sometimes she gets excited and tries to move faster than she is capable and she can fall down. Usually she is fine on carpet and can manage on hard wood floors...but she is not a fan of laminate! She can go up and down stairs as long as someone is within close range to help her if she falls. Zoe can get up on the couch by herself and LOVES to cuddle and give kisses! This girl really loves her dog beds and always wants to be around people. She follows us around everywhere and then lays next to us on the couch or on a dog bed at our feet without moving. She sleeps through the night in her crate, rides well in the car, and has not had a single accident in the house or her crate! Zoe gets along just fine with her 6 foster brothers and sisters but would probably do best as an only dog or with a calm, low energy dog in the house, as high energy dogs can knock her over. She does fine with kids too, as long as she can go to a household where the children are calm and understand that she is not a dog that can play rough!

Please do not let Zoe's disability scare you away from adopting this girl! Her personality is one of a kind. I can say as her foster mom that I have had many dogs come through my household, and very few could make me melt the way that this girl has. Zoe does not realize she has a disability...to her, all dogs are like this! She is happy and loves to dance and even when she falls, she gets right back up with a smile on her face and dances some more! She is so full of life and has SO much love to give! Right now she is severely underweight and we are trying to pack on some pounds by mixing canned puppy food in with her dry kibble but she is spayed, vaccinated, and ready to go to her new home! You will not regret opening your heart and home to this special girl!
